related field. The lab's research program focuses on
understanding the neurobiological mechanisms that contribute to internalizing
disorders. This is an ideal position for those seeking a postdoctoral
career of high research productivity (publications, grants) to successfully

Prospective graduate student applicants that are a good fit with my lab typically have had substantial research experience during their undergraduate careers. Those who have worked as a full-time, post-bachelor's degree research assistant in a related lab or who have a master's degree in a related field will be given greater consideration. Successful applicants have experience or interest in internalizing symptoms (anxiety and depression), neuroimaging (fMRI), and psychophysiological measures (EEG). Experience or interest in working with children, adolescents, and adults is also desirable. Experience with or willingness to learn coding in R, MATLAB, and Mplus is highly desirable.
Hourly Data Science Researcher
I am currently recruiting for a data science researcher
Prospective candidates should hold a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, engineering, neuroscience, psychology, or related disciplines. Experience with coding in R is required. Experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or Mplus is desired, but not required. The data science researcher's primary responsibilities will include downloading, cleaning, and preparing high dimensional datasets for analyses and updating/maintaining R code for data cleaning pipelines. This is a part-time hourly position for students from the Vanderbilt Data Science master's degree program; however, I will also consider applicants outside the program. Full-time Paid Research Assistant

A paid research assistant (RA) provides scientific support to Dr. Kaczkurkin, the postdocs, and the graduate students for a variety of duties associated with the ongoing studies in the lab. The RA participates in a wide range of activities such as overseeing the IRB applications, developing protocols, recruiting and screening participants, collecting data including fMRI and EEG measures, maintaining databases, preprocessing neuroimaging and psychophysiological data, analyzing data, and preparing materials for presentations, publications and proposals.
Honors Program for Undergraduate Students
I consider applicants for the Honors Program on an ongoing basis. Applications are usually due the spring of sophomore year. I do not take all requests for honors mentorship, so please contact me well ahead of the application deadline. The Honors Program offers students the opportunity
to gain intensive experience conducting scientific research with a faculty
mentor. For this program, the student will volunteer as an unpaid research assistant
in Dr. Kaczkurkin's lab, typically starting in the fall of their Junior year. This
is a two-year commitment that involves: 1) completing online training in
responsible conduct of research (RCR) within the first month of classes, 2)
working in the lab for 9-12 hours per week each semester, 3) attending lab
meetings on a weekly basis as well as regular meetings with Dr. Kaczkurkin, 4)
completing a research project on an agreed upon topic, 5) writing an Honors
Thesis by the end of the program (with portions of the thesis due each semester
in the Honors Seminar course), 6) completing a poster presentation as part of
Psychology Day, and 7) presenting an oral defense of the project by the end of
the program. This program also requires enrollment in a concurrent Honors
Seminar course each semester.
Independent and Directed Study for Undergraduate Students

Independent/Directed study gives undergraduate students the opportunity to pursue research opportunities not generally offered through typical coursework. For this course, the student will volunteer as an unpaid research assistant for course credit in Dr. Kaczkurkin's lab, typically in their Junior or Senior year, although Sophomores will be considered in special circumstances. I prefer a commitment of 2 semesters. Independent/Directed Study involves: 1) completing online training in responsible conduct of research (RCR) within the first month of classes, 2) working in the lab 3-4 hours per week per credit hour (e.g., 3 credit hours equals 9-12 hours per week), 3) attending lab meetings on a weekly basis as well as regular meetings with Dr. Kaczkurkin, and 4) writing a reflection paper of 4-5 pages in length on the research experience each semester.
Undergraduate Unpaid Volunteers
I consider volunteers on an ongoing basis but have limited openings. Feel free to email me to inquire about any current openings.
A undergraduate unpaid volunteer helps out with a variety of tasks in the lab such as website maintenance, participant recruitment, fMRI and EEG data collection, data entry, copying, helping make protocols, editing the lab wiki, literature review, and any other tasks that support Dr. Kaczkurkin, the postdocs, the grad students, and/or the RA with their research or teaching.
